Position Summary
This is an IBEW Local 1245 represented classification subject to collective bargaining and union dues.
Telecommunications Technicians, without direct supervision, will install, test and maintain telecommunications systems, including but not limited to intercommunication systems, telephone voice over IP systems, PBX, voice and data-switching systems, major operations computers, supervisory, power and telephone line carriers, microwave, SCADA Control systems , fiber optics, multiplex, radio, remote signal and remote control equipment, load frequency control, telemetering equipment, power systems including UPS, DC chargers and large battery banks. May be required to investigate, correct, or make recommendations to correct user station equipment, personal computers and related equipment problems, as well as radio and television interference complaints.

Responsibilities
Telecommunication Technicians are responsible for keeping PG&E's IT systems operational to support both business and operational IT networks that are needed to provide gas and electricity to our customers.
Telecommunication Technicians will work with our Telecommunication Control Center to ensure that outages are minimized and clients are informed through a clearance process. Provide maintenance and repair of these systems in a timely and professional manner.
Telecommunication Technicians will report problems to local management and escalate issues as need be.
Telecommunication Technicians will work safely and promote safety for yourself and others.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must possess a High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
Must possess a valid California Driver's License or ability to obtain within 10 days of hire
Ability to work in all types of weather extremes
Ability to drive in all weather and road conditions and must be able to travel through PG&E's service territory
Ability to work extended hours and various shifts on nights, weekends and holidays
Must be willing to climb towers and work at great heights up to 300 feet
Must be willing to fly in helicopter
Must qualify on the Physical Test Battery (PTB)
Must qualify Computer and Telecommunications Technician (CTT) exams to be considered.
Must obtain a valid Radio Telephone Operator License (FCC or Naber) or Company-approved certificate within six months of report date
A minimum of 3 years experience with telecommunications equipment as described above
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated strong concern for safety of self an others in the workplace.
Previous communication technician experience in the Utility Industry
