Under direct supervision, the purpose of this position is to process the receipt of emergency and non-emergency communications coming into the Sheriff's Office Cooperative Dispatch Center. Employees in this classification function in an entry level capacity while participating in in-house training programs to acquire specialized knowledge of the Communications Division. Upon acquiring essential knowledge, incumbents perform progressively more responsible duties and function under general supervision. The position is responsible for the receipt of 911 emergency and non-emergency public complaint information obtained from various media, and for the interrogation and relay of such information to the appropriate entity. Performs related work as directed. Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds. Tasks also require oral communications ability.
REQUIREMENTS
1. High school diploma or equivalent. An evaluation of foreign high school diploma may be required.
2. One (1) year of full-time, paid work experience in clerical, data entry, public contact and/or customer service work. Police aide work, explorer program, and/or college credits in criminal justice, telecommunications, or related field may supplement required experience.
3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for noted requirements. Such experience must be clearly documented in initial application for consideration.
4. Continued employment is contingent on the ability to participate in and satisfactorily complete established in-house training that provides essential knowledge and skill in the communications function. An audio based multi-skills test, a data entry test and a geography test will be administered among the assessment components.
A Psychological Evaluation will be required as part of the selection process for this position.
