Underwriting Consultant - Small Commercial - 1202656 Description WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBLITIES OF THE POSITION? Reporting to the AVP, Spectrum Line of Business Manager, the Underwriting Consultant will work to drive profitable growth of the Spectrum Line of Business, the Hartford’s proprietary BOP product. The Underwriting Consultant will work closely with partner organizations, including Underwriting Practices, Product Development, Operations, Marketing, Actuarial, Territory Management, Claim, and Legal, to advance the results of the Spectrum Line of Business. The Underwriting Consultant will play a key role in driving the strategic vision for the Line of Business by aiding in the development and support of Underwriting Policy for Spectrum. The individual will also help to manage the Spectrum product, including delivering enhancements in support of the Operating Plan (ex. new product enhancements, profit improvement initiatives, appetite changes, etc). The Underwriting Consultant will either lead or actively contribute as an SME (subject matter expert) to various Underwriting and/or Segment projects potentially across a wide array of subjects (ex. emerging industry issues, product development, automated underwriting, appetite expansion, state specific opportunities/challenges, compliance, pricing). This individual must ensure that Spectrum Underwriting Policy and/or changes in Underwriting Policy are communicated effectively and on a timely basis, resulting in consistent Underwriting execution in our Underwriting/Operations Centers. This may include the development of Underwriting articles, memos, FAQs, training materials, etc. Candidate must be a driven, self-starter who can work well independently with little supervision but also with teams. The candidate must be able to balance a wide variety of responsibilities at any given time and effectively manage their time. The ability to forge effective relationships across the organization is critical to success in this role. Additionally, the candidate must possess a strong sense of ownership and accountability. Qualifications WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE WE LOOKING FOR? Competencies: Excellent Technical skills –exceptional underwriting experience preferably in the field organization; Understanding of the Small Commercial Model. Overall Business Acumen – ability to translate short-term objectives to long term business outcomes. Ability to align recommendations with overall business goals. Leadership –Takes initiative, change management, raises issues that need to be addressed, and strives for achievement. Team leader. Prioritizes problems, focuses on critical issues and those that have largest impact. Makes decisions in a timely manner and shows good judgment. Problem solving.
