Job Summary:
Performs delegated nursing duties to assist the Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with patient care in the Emergency Department. Performs routine and emergency phlebotomy in the Emergency Department area. Responds reliably to all blood draw requests with a sense of priority. Records all phlebotomy acquisitions in the phlebotomy logbook. Obtains vital/orthostatic signs and documents these on the Emergency Department nursing records or Express Care records. Performs visual acuity checks and assists Triage Nurse with traffic control. Obtains required quality blood samples from properly identified patients in a timely manner as outlined by the Phlebotomy Policy and Procedure Manual.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent. General knowledge of the biological sciences.
Experience: One year LNA experience required. Phlebotomist experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Current Nursing Assistant License in the State of New Hampshire. BLS authorization preferred or obtained within 90 days of date of hire. Time frame to obtain BLS authorization may exceed 90 days based on patient care needs and the discretion of the Department Director. Phlebotomy certificate preferred.
